The Power Of Conversational Content
by Leanne Mordue on 24-Nov-2015 07:18:20
How do you feel about the content you are currently writing for your website or any marketing that you do? Does it connect with your audience on an emotional level? Does it draw people in? If prospects aren't staying on your site due to underwhelming content then where do you think those potential leads are going? That's right, straight to a competitor!
If you are marketing “savvy” then I'm sure you will have heard the term “conversational content” before now. However, for those of you who don't know what it is, let me explain...
Writing in a conversational style is basically writing as if you were talking to someone. The power of this is that it draws the reader in more than other forms of content. And, if you are achieving this, you will get people staying on your website for longer periods of time. Reducing your bounce rate, and hopefully increasing your leads. Providing you have a solid offer, competitive service and a great USP!
A Few Tips For Writing Conversational Content
1) Speech – Listen To Yourself And Others Talk
This may be extremely difficult to do at first but when you get the hang of it, and the more you do it, the better you will be able to write conversationally. Just pay attention to the way you talk to others and how others talk to you. Try to have that in your mindset whilst you are writing your content. If something doesn't quite sound right when you are writing, pause and think for a moment... “Would I say that the same way if I was talking to someone?” Of course there are times when you wouldn't want to type something as you'd say it, but the more you can the more powerful your content will be.
2) Write As If You Were Talking To A Friend
Whilst you are putting content together, think as if you were just having a normal conversation with one of your friends. The way you talk to them is going be different to the way you usually write. Try and translate the conversational elements into your writing.
3) Address the reader
If you want to write effectively, you need to address the reader directly. The best way to do this is to try and forget about writing in the third person. Write as if you are talking one-on-one. You can use phrases like “you can do this by...” instead of things like “one can do this by...” or “a marketer can do this by...” This will help you create a much more conversational style piece of content that will help keep your readers attention for longer.
4) Be Formal In A Way, But Not Too Much
You are probably thinking what does that mean? How can you be formal but not too formal at the same time? By being formal I mean using punctuation and grammar correctly and not using slang, as this may not suit a more professional audience. The way you can be more informal is by writing more naturally, as if you were in a conversation.
Content Marketing And Google
Conversational content is a crucial component of not only good copywriting, which attracts your readers attention, but also excellent content marketing! With conversational content you are appealing to more audiences and you are drawing people in as they read it. The result of this is ultimately more conversions, because your target audience are more likely to read the full article as intended and then take action, as long as it is presented in the right way. Furthermore, you are probably also aware now that SEO, Google and content marketing all fit hand in hand when it comes to getting more website traffic. Google has evolved over the years and so has the way people search for things. More and more searches are done in a conversational manner and Google is trying to answer these with the most relevant content it can. That is why more and more blog articles are ranking now for longer tailed search phrases. Conclusion
Okay, so we are nearing towards the end of this article now and you might be thinking that writing conversational content is easy. But it isn't as easy as it sounds... If you don't know how. However, if you take into consideration the points I have made in this article and just try and think more about the way you are writing in general, then it will soon become second nature. You will start benefiting from website visitors staying on your site longer, your content ranking better in Google and more people enquiring and converting.
